In 1979, Band Members of the Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl̓ecw (formerly Little Shuswap Indian Band) conceived of the establishment of a resort to spur economic development and named it Quaaout meaning “when the sun’s rays first hit the water” in Secwepemctsin. Since its opening in 1992, Quaaout Lodge Spa at Talking Rock Resort provides opportunities for Band Members and showcases the rich culture and history of Secwepemc people.

Trina Goebel, the manager of the resort’s Le7ke Spa, takes inspiration from and deeply values the natural beauty and bounty of the area in the wide variety of services provided. From the carefully hand-picked stones the shoreline of little Shuswap Lake for hot massage to the use of essential oils made from the local plants such as lavender, sage and rosemary, the strong connection to nature is paramount in the Le7ke Spa experience.

That very strong connection to the land is also what sustained Trina through not one, but two fires; the first was the structure fire of May 2022 followed by the wildfire of August 2023. “I never gave up hope”, she says as she recounts the pride of re-opening the spa in December of 2024 as the sole employee. “I was on my own at first and now we are a team of four helping to share the radiance and beauty of this place”. "Our guests have returned from all over", pointing out the popularity of the couples treatments, one of the only spas in the region to offer them.

Events and conferences are increasing in popularity and the Lodge is thriving. "The Band worked tirelessly to support us through some difficult times, and I truly never gave up hope, and I’ll continue to strive for success and for Le7ke Spa to flourish".
